Introduction

Good day and I hope all is well. I wanted to make my first blog post to state what the blog is about and what I plan to do with it. This will be a music related blog. I will post my own music (Entire songs or instrumentals),reviews of albums/songs, along with some other musical themed goodies. For my first series I will speak a little about my music and my biggest musical influences.

My love for music was inherited by me from my father. As a kid he would play his records as I would be coloring in my coloring books. He would play all kinds of music from Rock, Funk,Pop, as well as typical Latino music (Cumbia, Bachata, Salsa, Merengue, Bolledos, and so on). My older sisters would play reggaeton and whatever was trendy on hispanic radio. My older cousins were absolute Hip Hop heads. Growing up in New York they played nothing but Biggie, Jay-z, The Lox, Mase, DMX, Ja Rule just to name a few.

I grew up surrounded by all this music, and I always liked music but I wasn’t In Love with music. I remember the day that happened. I was on  school field trip in middle school. Back then everyone had a CD player: I had a black SONY walkman with green accents, it had buttons about half way up the headphones so I wouldn’t have to take it out of my pocket! I remember being on the chool bus and swapping CD’s with a classmate of mine so we would have something different to listen to. He let me listen to “The Black Album” by Jay-Z. I listened to it and the more I did the more and more I was enjoying it.

I hit track four … “Encore”. That was the moment, that was the place, that was the time. I heard jay’s words but they seemed to fade and all I could hear was the instrumental. I had no idea Kanye West produced the track, I had no idea who he was or what a producer even was at the time. All I knew was that I wanted to make sounds like that. To quote Jay’s line from the song “It’s so motherfucking soulful man!”.

As soon as I went home I began researching on-line “how to make music” “How to make beats” My research led me to a program called “Fruity Loops”. It took forever to download! I was on dial-up at the time (If you tried to call my house from 6pm-11pm that day my apologies) The rest as they say is history.
